I just finished watching Spurs v Man Utd’s goalless draw. The build up to this match focused on the cup final atmosphere that the fixture usually produces. I’m afaid this one ‘did not do what it said on the tin ‘as Craig Burley on Setanta Sports put it.
In fact, I’m getting a bit bored of watching terrible games, this weeks Champions League round did little to impress either. The fact that so many games are televised means that there are going to be more poor games. However I am struggling to remember a really entertaining game in the last while. I mean when you sit down to watch either Man Utd or Spurs lose, you think, what could go wrong. Unfortunately, a goalless draw is the worst outcome. Does professional sport have a responsibility to entertain? Yes, definitely. Are commercial pressures producing more bland games? Without a doubt. What can the we the consumers do? Pretty much nothing, except turn off or watch some other rubbish like Strictly Come Dancing. I would find that far more amusing than Steve McManaman and Andy Cole’s mind numbing banter. Mind you Macca did predict a high scoring game, then added It”ll probably be 0-0 now, eh la? To wich Cole insightfully added ‘yeah.’
